Health centre in Port Sudan (SD), Studio Tamassociati 2012. The paediatric clinic in the only harbour city of Sudan is officially an art project. It was financed by the 2 % portion of the building sum of Zaha Hadid’s MAXXI museum in Rome which had to be dedicated to art projects according to Italian law. Tamasociati’s new-build comprises 18 hospital beds, three outpatient clinics, a pharmacy and diagnostic services. The new centre greatly contributes to the provision of health services in the surrounding suburb, which has grown more than tenfold since 2000 due to rural exodus and the immigration of refugees.
