The Earth Science Center of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver by Perkins + Will was one of the first five-storey office buildings to be built of timber after the relaxation of the regional fire protection regulations in 2009. In the loadbearing structure the architects combined cross laminated timber elements with glulam beams, and wood and concrete composite elements.
