Born in Hokkaido in 1971, Fujimoto founded his practice in 2000 and gained international acclaim for his radical small-scale residential buildings and pavilions. Since 2001, he has taught at various Japanese universities. 2017 he established a second office in Paris. Among his best-known projects outside Japan are the Arbre Blanc residential tower in Montpellier and the House of Music in Budapest.
