Wine Cellars in Girlan

The efforts of a vintners’ cooperative in Alto Adige to present its wines in a more modern light ultimately developed into an exercise in corporate design. A new skin was wrapped round part of the building half a metre outside the existing facade. It consists of a steel framework clad with oak boarding of different widths. The dark-red sheet-steel reveals to the openings create a three-dimensional effect, and by keeping a view of the sky free at the top, the new skin is exposed as the mise en scène it really is. The illusion is heightened by translucent nets printed with wine motifs and drawn over the windows. Pleased with the outcome, the owners plan to give other parts of the complex a facelift, too.
