Training Centre in Gordola
This training centre for the Swiss federation of master builders is situated on alluvial land in the Magadino plain near the northern end of Lake Maggiore. To protect the new training areas from flooding, they have been grouped together in a single building and set on a concrete platform. The clear form of the elongated volume with its pronounced saw-tooth profile closes off the existing campus and sets a striking note in an area increasingly subject to urban sprawl. A view of the landscape is nevertheless retained beneath the raised volume of the building through a space that is also used for parking and that allows the wind to blow across the campus. The light steel structure on the concrete platform is covered over its entire length by north-light roofs – rather like an object on a workbench.
