The Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan has once again demonstrated that humanity will never be able to control the dangers of nuclear energy. This makes the expansion of renewable energy all the more crucial in the near future. Furthermore, the concept of self-sufficient energy production should be given greater prominence in the current energy debate. "Homegrown," so to speak, with the help of a solar thermal system, a rooftop photovoltaic system, and intelligent daylight control, it is already possible to become independent of conventional fossil fuels. This is impressively demonstrated by the example of a 1950s-era terraced house that Velux converted into a CO2-neutral home as part of the International Building Exhibition Hamburg and the European "Model Home 2020" project.
