Property+Product: Commercial Building in Lübeck

The commercial building designed by the Düsseldorf architects Ingenhoven and Partner in the medieval centre of the Hanseatic city is intended as a clear signal – firstly, for the retail sector, which wants to better utilize this potential in the future, and secondly, for the possibility of integrating new buildings into a historical context and thus initiating a dialogue with the surrounding architectural monuments. The "genius loci" demanded great sensitivity from all those involved in the planning. The design was to incorporate both the history of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and do justice to the significance of the market square as an outstanding urban ensemble of European architectural heritage.
