In view of the heterogeneous surroundings, one of the main aims of the design was to create a building of exceptional spatial quality that would have an identity of its own – and all at a minimum cost. Passing beneath an extensive canopy over the entrance and delivery area, visitors enter a two-storey hall, where a curved staircase that leads up to the offices of an advertising agency on the first floor affords views through four north-light roof spaces. The complexity of the interior is not apparent externally. The building is enclosed within two horizontal facade strips with rectangular openings. The upper level is in the nature of a piano nobile, with bigger openings and sliding windows. Another striking aspect is the large size of the precast concrete elements, which reduced the overall numbers required and therewith the transport costs and the amount of assembly work. The use of precast sandwich wall elements proved to be a more efficient solution than an in-situ concrete construction clad with precast slabs. The advantages of prefabrication and standardization were lower building costs, a shorter construction period and greater control of production under factory conditions. Nevertheless, a range of individual solutions was still possible.
