Report: Art Display-Store in Basle

Works of art are displayed in galleries and museums and stored in depots. What is a “display-store”, then? The answer is quite simple: it is a place where art is exhibited and stored in one and the same building. This new hybrid type has a number of advantages over the strict division between conventional galleries with their great spatial requirements and a high consumption of energy, but where only a few works can be displayed at any one time. There is also the question of storing valuable art works in crates, often without proper safeguards and out of reach of restoration and scientific research.
