Sun Moon Lake Visitors' Centre and Administrative Building near Yuchi

The Sun Moon Lake, set in a hilly, wooded landscape, is the largest inland area of water in Taiwan and a popular destination in particular for honeymoon couples. For the erection of a new visitors’ centre on the western shore of this artificial lake, an international competition was held in 2003. It was won by the Tokyo architect Norihiko Dan with a dynamically curved design. Laid out offset to each other are two boomerang-shaped volumes. The western wing accommodates the visitors’ centre, together with exhibition galleries and lecture spaces, as well as a cafe with a panoramic view of the lake. The eastern wing contains the offices of the park administration. Ramps lead up like walkways to the two roofs, the large terraces of which afford broad views over the landscape.
