TIB Pavilion, TU Berlin

Wooden research pavilions typically focus on realizing complex geometries, new structural concepts, or innovative manufacturing processes – the practical utility of the final product usually plays a subordinate role. As exhibition objects, they remain erected only for a short time, making wood preservation irrelevant. This is different for the teaching and research pavilion that students and staff of the Institute of Civil Engineering and the Institute of Architecture at TU Berlin erected on their campus during the summer semester of 2011. The enclosed, gleaming white container, with a footprint of 4.9 × 7 m and a height of 3 m, stands out primarily due to its contrast with the brick architecture of the former AEG site in Berlin-Wedding, designed by Peter Behrens and now home to the Technology and Innovation Park Berlin (TIB).
