Two broad projections on the south face mark the main entrance to the two-storey, pavilion-like kindergarten Les Platanettes in Nîmes. A narrow foyer leads to a covered play area that is open to the west. From here, one has access to a broad wooden terrace and a playing field in the shade of large plane trees. With its cruciform layout, the structure is divided into four distinct realms. Raised on steel columns and stone wall slabs on the upper floor, all five group rooms face west, whereas the crèche, sleeping spaces, computer and other rooms are laid out along the eastern side. Horizontal gratings provide sunshading. Partly transparent partitions create visual links between the group rooms and the circulation areas.
