The University of Technology, Munich, occupies a whole street block in the Maxvorstadt district of the city. The complex consists of buildings dating from various periods. At the north-west corner is an L-shaped exposed-concrete structure erected in 1963 to plans by Munich architect Franz Hart. In the meantime, this had grown dilapidated and was in need of refurbishment, especially in terms of its energy consumption and fire protection, which no longer complied with present-day standards.
