Wood should be the preferred building material. The municipality of Thüringerberg already stipulated this wish in the competition documents for the construction of a new kindergarten and fire station. In the second round, Bruno Spagolla's design impressed the jury in terms of urban planning, organization, and aesthetics. The two-part structure, made of wood and concrete, clearly indicates its two distinct uses from the outside. The building also marks the entrance to the village and skillfully closes off the adjacent festival grounds to the east. With a design language inspired by regional architecture, the new building connects to the existing structures without appearing overly familiar. The energy efficiency and ecological concept also spoke in favour of the project. Last year, it was awarded the 2011 Vorarlberg Timber Construction Prize.
