Extension to the University of Applied Sciences in Kuchl

The extension at the Kuchl Campus of the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences gives students state-of-the art examples – both in architectural and technological terms – of timber applications. The circulation within the rectangular building massing takes the form of a glazed skywalk facing the adjacent existing building, creating an L-shaped figure. The foyer and art room on the ground floor take up the entire depth of the building. In the upper storeys one reaches the seminar rooms and a library via a single-loaded corridor. Because it was not possible to position the partition walls directly above one another and, cross-wall construction had to be ruled out. Instead a frame system was employed.
