Situated on the edge of Vicosoprana, this trades centre is part of a concept to reinvigorate the Bergell Valley region. It provides space for small businesses to pitch their products, but also offers vocational courses. Inspired by local tradition, the building is almost completely of wood. The concrete base – containing the workshops, storerooms and car park – is set back slightly, making the wood structure appear to hover above ground. The longitudinal interior wall divides the floor plan in two zones: to the north, the circulation space, and to the south, the shop and offices. Because the cross-bracing provides sufficient stiffening for the entire building, the partition walls defining the spaces can be changed at will.
