Set on the edge of a steep slope, this new school building in northern Italy replaces an existing institution that is being converted into a kindergarten. Access to both developments will eventually be via a common lobby. The basement, in which a youth centre is located, receives daylight from one side as a result of the sloping site. Adjoining the entrance on the ground floor are a hall and refectory, which can be combined for larger events. On the two upper floors, the ancillary spaces are oriented towards the village, while the classrooms overlook the valley. The load-bearing structure consists of a conventional reinforced concrete skeleton frame with bracing cores. The closed areas of the outer walls have a composite thermal insulation system and textured rendering.
