Object+Product: Centre for Virtual Engineering in Stuttgart

In June 2012, the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO opened its new Center for Virtual Engineering (ZVE) in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, a spectacular project that exemplifies interdisciplinary communication and cooperation. The architects from UNStudio (Amsterdam) and ASPlan (Kaiserslautern) were tasked with developing a building that would create ideal working conditions and foster innovation. The IAO's central focus is the development and testing of new working methods for the future. Fraunhofer scientists work on projects related to new working environments, mobility, and future urban planning systems in the 3,200 m² facility. The various laboratories, such as the "Workspace Innovation Lab," the "Urban Living Lab," and the "Digital Engineering Lab," are designed to strengthen the innovative capacity of the Fraunhofer IAO and the Baden-Württemberg region.
