Object+Product: Vienna Ship Station

Skillfully integrated into the urban landscape between the Schwedenbrücke and Marienbrücke bridges in the heart of Vienna, the new ship station designed by architects fasch&fuchs. is far more than just a docking and disembarkation point for the inland shipping company "DDSG blue danube" and the new scheduled ferry service to Bratislava. With its elongated white steel structure, the ship station makes an architectural statement and creates a transport link for the entire area. The restaurant and sun terrace on the building's two upper floors further revitalize the previously unattractive Danube Canal waterfront. The design emerged victorious from an invited competition among eight international architectural firms in 2006. Construction began in 2009, and the project was completed and inaugurated in July 2010.
