In its 50-year existence, DETAIL has presented the stories of innumerable building developments. Some still stand after decades, looking much as they did on the day they were completed. Others have been changed beyond recognition. Buildings are usually published before one has any experience of the way they function – all the more reason to take another look at structures from earlier editions of the journal to see whether their concept and construction have stood the test of time. In the context of “architecture and landscape”, we take a second look in this issue at the Eden Project in St Austell by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, which was completed in 2001.
