Bar in Vienna
The goal of architects Gregorio S. Lubroth and Chieh-shu Tzou is not just to create a real cocktail bar. They also want to run the bar, "If dogs run free," themselves – for students, neighbors, and anyone else who wants to enjoy a good drink after work. The architects didn't really have the time, but they simply couldn't pass up this opportunity. In Vienna's 6th district, a neighbourhood not yet fully impacted by gentrification, they stumbled upon a chance to rent an 82-square-metre shop that had been used as a warehouse for some time and was recently vacant. Having already completed several bars, restaurants, and other food service projects, and thus being well-versed in the scene, they decided to act as developers themselves in this case and open and run a bar – not far from their office. The architect duo and three friends who joined them aimed for a simple and affordable bar that sees itself as a "living room" for the neighbourhood, but is also committed to an authentic cocktail culture – which is hardly widespread in Vienna, where the scene is dominated by either hotel bars or expensive upscale establishments with bars.
