The new Georg Goldstein School in Bad Urach, inaugurated in autumn 2012, incorporates no less than five different types of school under one roof. Approximately 600 students, ranging between the ninth and the thirteenth grade, study here for intermediate school, technical college or university entrance diploma (Abitur). In 2009, the district authorities announced a Europe-wide architectural competition for a new-build, which was won by a local team of architects led by Thomas Bamberg, Markus Haug and Eberhard Wurst. Subsequently, the client decided that the new school be built to Passive House Standard, and accordingly increased the budget by 800,000 Euro.
