The 100-metre-long building of the local youth hostel and a local branch of Raiffeisen Bank stands directly alongside the East Interlaken train station, which has always been an important crossroads for rail tourists in the Swiss Jungfrau area. The cohabitation of these two tenants can be explained by virtue of their similar values: they both appreciate the central location and both value sustainability in architecture, which is why this building was awarded the Swiss Minergie-P-ECO Certificate. In terms of energy efficiency, the new-build nearly meets the Passivhaus Standard; furthermore, stringent criteria for nontoxic materials, air quality and natural lighting had to be applied. The triple storey, monolith construction with a receding upper storey has a punctuated facade clad with composite thermal insulation.
