Object+Product: City Hall in Reutlingen

The specific location and immediate surroundings play a crucial role for Max Dudler in the development of his architectural concepts. Thus, the Reutlingen City Hall is inextricably linked to the newly designed public park on the former Bruderhaus site, in close proximity to the old town. But the new building is intended to enrich Reutlingen not only in terms of urban planning. The timelessly elegant interior spaces offer opportunities for a wide variety of cultural events and, under the motto "A Hall for All," are also open to clubs and associations as a meeting place and rehearsal space. The idea of a new, vibrant, and identity-forming centre, coupled with the inadequate facilities offered by the previously used Friedrich List Hall for all types of events, led to the launch of a competition in 2008 for the construction of a new concert and event hall in the heart of Reutlingen. Max Dudler's design emerged as the winner – a striking, almost archaic-looking building that, despite its size and austerity, attempts to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings.
