St. Moritz Parish Church was established in what is presently the centre of Augsburg nearly 1000 years ago. Following fire and collapse in early years, a Romanesque basilica was erected; later a Gothic choir and vaults were introduced. It was altered in the course of Reformation and Counter-Reformation and was later lavishly reappointed in the baroque era. Dominikus Böhm directed the rebuilding of the church, which had been damaged during World War II; he gave it a modern form. Nevertheless, in this version, as in others, different historical periods shine through. Following liturgical reform in the 1960s, however, the consonance was diminished.
