The Yard – as the architects call this new space – is the first component of the master plan by Henley Halebrown Rorrison to be realised for the campus at the University of Roehampton in southwest London. The former trades yard and workshops – which were previously inaccessible to students – have been transformed into a space that is visually connected to the student café and the university chapel. In addition, a new passageway was created through the faculty building to the north. At the southern edge of the courtyard, two additional openings in the wall lead to a landscaped garden that is also part of the university.
