Administration Building in Heilbronn

Set in a park-like landscape, the administrative headquarters of the German Südwest-metall federation in Heilbronn is in the form of a single-storey pavilion 76 m long and 18.5 m wide. The clear, unadorned volume of the building is framed by the broadly projecting floor and roof planes. The two ends of the structure and the roof are clad entirely in a stainless-steel lattice mesh that reflects the surroundings and that either dematerializes the volume of the building or articulates its contours, depending on the light conditions. This new form of cladding over the facade (with a ventilated cavity to the rear) consists of stainless-steel strips 0.4 mm thick and 50 mm wide woven in a warp-and-weft system to form lengths of lattice sheeting. This, in turn, is fixed to a GRP supporting grating.
