Consisting of a number of tubular fragments, the pavilion forms the entrance to the 50th Biennial of art in Venice. The double-skin segments in oxidized steel are covered and held together by a similarly rust-coated coffered metal roof with a peripheral tie beam. Light enters the pavilion through large circular openings in the roof. In addition to the actual entrance tunnel with its news and information, other modules – simply fitted out and glazed over their end faces – house a ticket office, cloakrooms and a small police station. Internally, all the modules are painted in fluorescent colours, which lend this installation a special note at night. The ensemble forms part of a temporary project called “The Cord”, comprising some 200 m of tubular fragments inscribed on the inside to advertise the Bien-nial in various Italian cities.
