German Embassy in Helsinki

One of the main aims of the design was to establish a dialogue between the large volume of this complex and the landscape. The cruciform plan is formed by two L-shaped tracts with clearly differentiated functions. Their point of intersection represents a natural focus and is laid out as an open "cour d'honneur", punctuated by a group of large stelae. For security reasons, the various entrance zones were separated. The residence is situated to the south-west, the administrative offices to the north-east. The insitu concrete walls are clad externally with marble from the German Jura. The plinth, floors and stairs are of German and Finnish granite.
