Extension of State Academy of Visual Arts, Stuttgart
Situated immediately next to the Weissenhofsiedlung, the elongated academy extension links the two existing buildings on the site to form an ensemble about an open square. The outer skin of the new tract consists of a prefabricated metal and glass façade. The inviting, transparent entrance zone leads to a two-storey multi-purpose space and a broad, top-lit corridor with peripheral galleries. A freestanding staircase in the exhibition area provides access to a bridge structure over the multi-purpose space and to exhibition rooms in the basement.?
