Michaelerplatz in Vienna

Two thousand years of Viennese building history have been uncovered beneath the circular centre of this public open space. An 11-metre-wide and up to 7.50-metre-deep strip containing the relics of the past has been left open. In order not to mar the view from the Kohlmarkt to the Michaelertor, the viewing strips and parapet walls along the sides of this trench were sunk to a lower level. Information is provided in the form of inscriptions related directly to the historical remains and diode illuminated descriptions in a media block integrated into the parapet wall.
