Extension of Glass Museum in Kingswinford

This new all-glass entrance pavilion provides an outstanding example of the innovative use of this material. The load-bearing structure consists of a series of triple-laminated, toughened sheet-glass beams and columns at 1.10 m centres connected with glass mortice and tenon joints. The structure is clad with a triple-glazed roof and a double-glazed façade. The sheets of glass are fixed and sealed with silicone. A silver soft coating was applied to the outer layer of the roof glazing to inhibit solar gain. This enhances the visual effect from within the pavilion and maintains an essentially clear glass solution.
