Transformer Station in Munich

The redevelopment of the area around the former airport in Munich into a zone for trade and light industry necessitated the erection of his transformer station. The bold form of the extract hoods was both an outcome of technical requirements and an expression of the circulation path of cooling air. The minimal constraints in terms of constructional physics meant that the external walls could be built in lightweight concrete with no additional thermal insulation. Only the elevation facing on to the road was constructed in brickwork.
