Administration Building in Berne

The Swiss Alcohol Administration wished to regroup its scattered offices and create additional space. The programme was accommodated in two adjacent buildings - an art nouveau structure and a refurbished extension tract dating from 1948. The vertical access zone at the end of the extension contains a staircase, a passenger lift and a goods lift. The lift enclosures are a special feature of the design. The tubular structure supporting the frameless glazing is suspended from a plate girder and is subject only to tensile stresses.
