Station in Lille

The new station in Lille is the junction for the Channel Tunnel link where the lines from Paris and Brussels meet. A central idea of the design was to create a building with a lightweight roof of steel and glass, similar to those of the great stations of the 19th century. The linear layout of the building along the platforms facilitates swift orientation and obviates the need for most direction signs. Entrances are on the top floor at the level of the access roads. Ticket offices, left luggage areas, waiting rooms, shops and snack bars, as well as customs controls, are on an intermediate floor. At the lowest level are two platforms and four tracks for stopping trains, in addition to two tracks for through trains.
