Administration Building in Nottingham

The new Inland Revenue Centre was erected on a derelict industrial site at the edge of Nottingham city centre. To the north, the site is bordered by the Nottingham Canal and to the south by a railway line. The complex provides 40,000 m² of office space. The central axis of this development, with its street-block-like articulation, is aligned with the prominent urban landmark of Nottingham Castle on Standard Hill. Since the complex can, therefore, also be viewed from above, the design of the roofscape as a "fifth façade" and the treatment of the external areas played a major role. The choice of materials for the façades echoes the construction of existing warehouse buildings along the canal.
