The scheme for the extension of the stadium was based on a prizewinning competition entry. The relatively conventional form of construction of the club and changing rooms - a solid structure with external cladding - is contrasted with the innovative steel and timber design of the grandstand. The primary structure of the stand is a skeleton frame of galvanized steel sections, supporting tapering, cantilevered steel roof beams. The lightly curved roof consists of a prefabricated timber cellular construction, covered with laminated wood strip panels, and with a smooth lining of three-ply laminated wood sheets on the underside.
