Approached via a metal screen and gate, the entrance to the architects' practice serves a number of functions. It replaces the former side entrance with a prominent, welcoming point of access; it provides a sheltered link between the two Patera office buildings, the model shop and print room; it signals the new reception area in the form of a free-standing glass box between the office and the garden wall; and it provides a festive structure for entertaining in summer. The new tensile fabric roof is fixed with sliding bearings to the columns of the Patera building and is bolted to the wall along its rear edge. The free edge is tied to "gallows" brackets.
