To ensure a certain independence of the weather during the annual summer festival in Wiltz, Luxemburg, a retractable roof was to be constructed over the open-air theatre. The design had to respect the character of the existing historical ensemble. The roof consists of a membrane covering fixed to a fan of cables. The position and height of the connections take account of the historical staircase and gardens. Opposite the stage, the cables converge to a row of tubular steel posts, to where, in fine weather, the membrane can be retracted to a closed position under a protecting roof.
