House in Ammerland

Surrounded by oak trees, this detached house is situated on a slight slope on the shores of a lake. Its design, based to some degree on the local villa style, nevertheless makes full use of modern materials and technology, while mindful of current ecological concerns. External walls to the north, south and east have additional corkboard insulation. All the building timber was felled at 1000 m in frost and it has remained crackfree. The wooden structure was treated with an impregnating base, and the façades scumbled. Further protection for the wood is afforded by the overhanging eaves.
