'Nipponbashi House' in Osaka

The 'Nipponbashi house' was built on a very narrow plot in the town centre of Osaka. The building's façade is just 2.5 m wide and completely fills the available street frontage. From front to back the house measures 13 m. Modest floor to ceiling heights in the lower floors have allowed very generous proportions in the uppermost floor where the dining room is located. With its 6 m high ceiling this room takes up as much as two thirds of the entire building. The remaining space at this level is taken up by an open roof terrace. Conceived as an additional living space, Waro Kishi's roof terrace takes its inspiration from Le Corbusier's idea of the roof garden.
