Art Museum in Kolding

Founded in 1981, the Trapholt art museum houses 20th century Danish fine art and decorative and applied arts. A competition was held for the design of new museum buildings, to be erected in picturesque countryside near Kolding Fjord. The architects' main theme is a long 'museum road', winding through the terrain and continuing inside the building as a link between the galleries, which are all very different in size, shape and design. Short stairways, bridges and balconies open new visual angles and create changing impressions. The final scene at the end of the 'road' is a panoramic view of the fjord from the cafeteria.
