The Lis book shop was set up in the lofty ground floor hallway of the one-time newspaper offices of La Stampa. It takes the place of a former international news stand. The architects created a shop window to Turin's busy, fashionable Via Roma, and erected distinctive shelf and counter units for the books. Bare floor boards and a metal canopy reinforce the image of a market stall in the open air. All the units in the display system are of perforated metal connected together like a 'Meccano' set with oversized bolts and braced with guys. Coloured signs act as a design counterpoint. Ironic high-tech successfully combines here with sparse minimalism.
