The museum's exhibits were rehoused in the new extension, offices and workshops remaining in the old block. A new, generously proportioned hallway with central rooflight forms the link between the two. In the exhibition rooms northlight is bounced off angled surfaces on the ceiling before reaching the sensitive exhibits. The use of concrete in the prefabricated ceiling units and in-situ building frame and walls helps to regulate temperature. Colour-washed internal walls save on cladding and also give identity to the different areas.
