Sports Centre in Unterföhring

Careful planning of open areas in this sports and leisure centre gives a park-like impression, in keeping with its location on the edge of open countryside. A uniform building height is achieved through lowering the ground level in the area of the sports hall. A generously proportioned central approach leads to the main entrance, with its freestanding porch supported on four RHS columns. Here, semi-circular fair-faced tiles in two colours echo the engineering brickwork on the sports hall walls. Two steel purlins and T-shaped steel glazing bars form the entrance roof. Four tie bars affix to the purlins, with diagonal tie bars in the end glazed bays, to counteract overturning.
