Retail premises in a listed building in the town centre of Cologne were converted into a gallery-style jeweller's shop with much display flexibility. Concrete was chosen for its sculptural qualities and for its combination of hardness with plasticity. Rough textured concrete blocks are suspended on wires from the ceiling and can be rearranged to suit a particular display. Openings in the concrete house the exhibition/sale items. The shop is a kind of stage for people and movement, a place for glimpses, fragility, weightlessness and sensuous appreciation of jewellery. The shop window and the entrance mark the threshold between an everyday and a timeless world.
