The British Pavilion at Expo '92 in Seville

The prefabricated tubular steel structure of the GB Pavilion encloses a large, single volume with 3 free-standing exhibition decks and 2 enclosed pods. Suspended from this frame is the circulation system of travolators and walkways. The main envelope consists of 10 identical frames, each one a pair of vertical column trusses 22 m high supporting the roof truss with a clear span of 32 m. The roof truss/column connection is a single pin. Longitudinal stability is provided by X-bracing in the central bay. Offering external skins respond to climatic conditions. The E. wall is the focal point. Here, the sun's energy is harnessed to drive high-tech cooling systems.
