For the first time in Siemens' history the company presented its own pavilion at a world exposition. The objectives for the company's architects and engineers were two-fold: to design and build a pavilion which would both serve as an exhibition space for the 6 months of Expo '92, and also be capable of being converted into office space and a training centre afterwards, as part of a general conversion of the Expo site into a technology park. Care had to be taken to do justice to both of these objectives. The major challenge was to create a design distinguished by clarity, aesthetic form and technical sophistication that would stand out from its surroundings.
