Viewed from Boulevard Saint Germain, the new building forms a key landmark in the Parisian cityscape. The west side, the building's prow, is characterized by a white marble cylinder behind a transparent facade. To enhance the transparency, the glazing is set deep behind the facade structure. This allows a view through the building to the south facade, whose ornamentation is clearly visible when backlit, and to the marble cylinder. This "book spiral" terminates at the level of the roof terrace of the northern section of the building. It is surpassed by two stories by the glass space.
