Serpentine Pavilion 2012 in London

Following Peter Zumthor, Swiss architects were once again given the opportunity this year to design the summer pavilion of the Serpentine Gallery in London's Kensington Gardens. Alongside Herzog & de Meuron, the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, who had previously contributed to the design of Beijing's National Stadium, the "Bird's Nest," also participated. This particular collaboration between the architects and the Swiss had not yet resulted in a project in Great Britain – a fundamental requirement of the competition organizers.
